Brooklyn Fiber ("Brooklyn Fiber," "we," "us," or "our") operates bkfiber.com and provides internet service to residents, businesses, buildings, and events in Brooklyn and the greater New York City area. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website and to our services.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Information you give us. Your name, email address, phone number, service address and unit number, and anything you write in a message to us. If you request a business, dedicated internet, or event quote, we also collect the details you provide about that project.
- Account and billing information. If you become a customer, we collect the information needed to bill and support your account. Card and bank details are handled by our payment processor. We do not store full payment card numbers on our systems.
- Service and network information. Information needed to provision, operate, secure, and troubleshoot your connection, such as equipment identifiers, connection status, bandwidth utilization, and diagnostic logs.
- Website information. Standard server data such as IP address and browser type, and aggregate traffic measurement through Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views, referring pages, and page performance without cookies and without tracking you across other sites. Our address availability search sends the address you type to our serviceability service so we can answer for that address; the list of buildings is not published. You do not need an account to use it.
How we use information
- To answer your inquiry, quote service, and schedule installation.
- To provide, maintain, secure, and repair your internet service.
- To bill your account and keep records required for tax and regulatory purposes.
- To send service notices such as outage, maintenance, and appointment updates.
- To improve the website and understand which pages are useful.
- To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
Text messages
If you check the text message box on our contact form, you agree to receive text messages from Brooklyn Fiber about your service, including appointment confirmations, installation updates, and outage notices. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for help. Mobile opt in data and consent are not shared with third parties or sold for marketing purposes.
Network management and net neutrality
We are a net neutral, fully symmetrical internet service provider. We do not block lawful content, throttle lawful traffic based on its source or type, or accept payment to prioritize one company's traffic over another's. We monitor network performance to keep the network healthy and to detect abuse and security threats. We do not sell customer web browsing histories.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers. Vendors who host our site, protect our forms from automated abuse, deliver our email and text messages, process payments, and provide billing and support tooling. They may use the information only to perform work for us.
- Property owners and managers. Where we operate a building network, we may confirm that a unit is activated. We do not share the contents of your communications or your browsing activity with a landlord.
- Legal reasons. When required by law, subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of our customers, our staff, or the public.
- Business transfers. If Brooklyn Fiber is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, customer information may transfer as part of that transaction.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, remember preferences, and protect forms from automated abuse. Our traffic measurement does not use cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site behave.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, and afterward only as long as required by law or reasonably necessary to resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain business and tax records. Inquiries that do not become accounts are kept for a limited period and then deleted.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- You can ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
- You can ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep.
- You can opt out of marketing email by using the unsubscribe link, and out of text messages by replying STOP.
To make a request, email [email protected] or call 718-BKFIBER. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Children
Our services are directed to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be communicated to active customers by email or by a notice on this site.
